Paul Valente
Facility Automation Architect Manager for CPS
Paul is the Facility Automation Architect for Chicago Public Schools and is responsible for Managing/Upgrading/Repairing/Installing off all the BAS (Building Automation Systems) and other IoT systems going within CPS. CPS has 1120 distinct physical structures encompassing 65+ million square feet with an average age of 82 years old, that serves 320k students with 55k staff across the district and is the fourth largest school district in the United States. Paul is principally responsible for all coordination for specifications, and the districts consolidation efforts as well as spending time and energy providing the district with cutting edge technology to bring the district to the 21st century for controls and management of them.
In addition to the aforementioned HVAC work Paul has recently been given management of the Intercom and Audio-Visual contracts for the board. These two areas were lacking a manager or director to oversee them and ensure that the board receives the goods and services that it needs to properly operate these key areas of infrastructure. Paul has created a team for intercom governance that has in the past school year organized, cataloged and set up budget for repair/maintenance/upgrading of the legacy intercom systems in the schools. Paul is working on setting up the same for the audio-visual system for the district with the additional steps of curating the catalog of goods and services for the district so that the occupants get the best bang for their buck.
Paul has extensive experience with all aspects of the IT infrastructure and is a “jack of all trades” kind of person who was tapped with this effort by the CIO of the district to make sure the efforts of centrally managing and keeping things working to provide the occupants a warm, cool, safe and dry setting is implemented.
